AI for People, Planet and Progress: India’s Global Vision
India is currently hosting the India – AI Impact Summit 2026, a major global event focused on the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence. Organized by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), the summit is being held on 19–20 February 2026 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. The summit was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, marking an important moment for India’s growing role in global AI leadership.
This summit is especially significant because it is the first global AI gathering of its kind hosted in the Global South. At a time when Artificial Intelligence is transforming industries, education, healthcare, governance and media, India is positioning itself as a voice for inclusive and ethical technological growth.
The central vision of the summit is based on three guiding principles, known as the Three Sutras — People, Planet and Progress.
The first Sutra, People, focuses on ensuring that AI improves lives, creates opportunities, and promotes social inclusion. It highlights the importance of skill development and making AI accessible to developing nations.
The second Sutra, Planet, emphasizes sustainability. Discussions explore how AI can help fight climate change, manage resources efficiently, and support environmental protection.
The third Sutra, Progress, promotes responsible innovation. It stresses the need for safe, transparent and trustworthy AI systems that support economic growth without harming society.
In addition, the summit discussions are structured around seven key focus areas, called the Seven Chakras. These include human capital development, inclusion for social empowerment, safe and trusted AI, resilience and innovation, science, democratizing AI resources, and AI for economic growth and social good. These areas aim to transform ideas into practical global cooperation.
Pre-summit initiatives such as AI-focused global challenges for youth, women innovators and social impact projects have further strengthened participation and inclusivity.
Through this summit, India is not only showcasing its technological capability but also promoting a balanced and human-centered approach to Artificial Intelligence. The message is clear — AI should not just advance economies, but also serve humanity, protect the planet and ensure shared global progress.
In conclusion, the India – AI Impact Summit 2026 represents a powerful step toward building a future where Artificial Intelligence works for everyone, responsibly and inclusively.
