No Visa Ban for Indian Students, Says Australia

No Visa Ban for Indian Students, Says Australia

Recently, a lot of people were worried because news was spreading that Australia had banned students from some Indian states like Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Jammu and Kashmir. Many students who were planning to study in Australia became confused and scared.

But now, the Australian High Commission in New Delhi has cleared everything. On April 23, 2025, they said clearly that there is no ban or restriction on Indian students from any state. They said, “The news that students from some Indian states are banned is wrong.”

They also said that over 1,25,000 Indian students are already studying in Australia, which is the second-largest group after China. Indian students are very important for Australia’s universities, and visa applications from India are still being processed normally.

Even India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed this. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that giving visas is totally the decision of that country. It’s their right to accept or reject any visa application.

The confusion started when Peter Dutton, the opposition leader in Australia, said he wants to limit the number of international students and reduce permanent migration by 25% if his party comes to power. He said that too many people coming to Australia is making rent prices very high, and he blamed the government's current migration policies.

Dutton shared that international students in Australia have increased by 65% since the last election, and the number of new arrivals has made house rents go up by 25%. His comments made students think that strict rules might be coming soon.

However, the good news is that even with all this talk, more and more Indian students are going to Australia. In February 2025 alone, more than 2,700 Indian students got their visas approved, and India has now become the top country sending students to Australia, even ahead of China.

Many students choose Australia because of good courses in IT, business, engineering, healthcare, and also because they offer good jobs after study.

So, if you are a student planning to study in Australia, you don’t have to worry. There is no ban, and Australia is still welcoming Indian students happily.
